The steps to designing a quality mosaic should be taken seriously. These classes are developed to foster knowledge, skill, and style. It is my goal to mold you into a fearless creative mind, creating from your materials. I will provide you with rules, tips and tricks that will increase your cutting skills, design skills, and give you steps to create a quality one-of-a-kind stained glass mosaic. I have been specializing in glass on glass mosaics for 20 years, through trial and error, I have developed a process that will assist you in understanding how to design a glass on glass mosaic that looks good at night without light and good during the day with light. We will discuss balance, color theory, physics of glass and why it breaks the way it does. I will teach you to use my rules as a guideline to foster your personal creativity, they, and you are welcome to break them. It is important we have fun and release stress, not create it. Don’t over think the process. It is essential to train you to use your creative side to cultivate “artistic freedom without self-doubt.” Think back to when you were a child; you created for expression, not to please others. The more you produce, the better you get. When you do something all the time you become good at it. Practice is how you get better. Another process we will discuss in depth is pre-cut and cut to fit glass, randomization, and the direct method. We will practice cutting glass because the more you cut the better you get.  I will teach you process; the progression is what will make you quicker and confident to commit to your design and cuts. The act of doing will develop confidence in cutting ad sharpen your skills and self-assurance. In my classes your mosaic is your world…you are the artist; I encourage you to take my suggestions and tips but use your instincts to develop your piece.

I will encourage you to create with passion, strive for originality, make your own rules and break them! Have you ever herd of the saying, if you don’t use it you lose it? Practice makes perfect! Now let’s learn some rules, cutting techniques, and tips and tricks to promote your creativity. The objective is for you to design a one-of-a-kind design, a lifetime piece of art. I want you to gain the confidence in the design aspect, understand how to create good art. The three-step method I have created will assist you in doing just that. Understand how to break your design into layers, specific cuts, and control the directional flow. We will discuss the best way to select your glass using the opacity rules created specifically for glass on glass. Technique and style will be addressed. I will encourage you to use my process and commit to your design quickly. Grouting and glue tips will be addressed in this workshop.

What is Glass on Glass (GOG) Mosaic Art?

What is Glass on Glass (GOG) Mosaic Art?

Glass on Glass Mosaics is essentially glass, usually stained glass, glued to glass and then grouted, using sanded grout. Mosaics are durable they can be put together to last a lifetime and beyond, if proper steps are taken.

More specifically, what does art mean to me (Kory Dollar); why do I create and teach with such passion?

To me Glass on Glass is my story, my lifeline, my legacy, my drive, and passion.

What makes my teaching style unique?

I have a specific cutting style, rules, and guidelines established to push myself and my students beyond our artistic realm. I will open your eyes to how glass breaks and why it breaks the way it does. I have simple rules to follow and if you want to break them that is okay too! I will teach you process and style, while having a great time and creating epic art. I can explain how and why. I provide excellent visual aid. My teaching style will adapt to any learning style.  I provide hands on, visual aids, verbally express the steps, and provide detailed handouts.

The snow will melt, but this memory will last forever! This photo reminds me of why I love glass on glass. It takes me back to childhood, the creative bonds I established between my parents and the environment. It is the freedom to use any materials around you just to create and it doesn’t have to be good it just needs to be done! Creating art is expressive, healing, and emotional. A gift to understand how using your materials can create life long memories, not just art. Art that disappears can even make the most memorable impact to keep creating in adulthood. From the moment we are born our brain is building synapses that make us happy and art has always done that for me! I believe that because of the artistic environment I grew up in art keeps me happy; it reduces my anxiety, reminds me of wonderful times spent creating from our materials! If the universe gives you snow make a colorful snowman.

What is so different about Glass on Glass Mosaics?

Using the process I have developed, Glass on Glass Art, will out last the test of time. I know that not only am I creating lifetime art, I am inspiring others to leave a healthy artistic footprint behind too.  I teach how to build/create a lifetime piece of fine art. I believe you are only around as long as your memory and that is essentially why I create with such passion. I know my Great Great Great Grandchildren will see my art, making my existence on earth transcending. I want to leave a healthy artistic footprint, to out-stand the test of time; and that is what makes GOG so special to my heart.

I am proud to promote “artistic freedom without self-doubt,” in my students and children. This photo of the best snowman EVER in Lily’s world! It reminds me why I teach my trade to others; Glass on Glass is very powerful; it is a trade I have developed and built throughout my artistic journey,  my life. My work is inspired by tile work, mosaic, sculpture, painting, pottery, woodwork, glass blowing, and my environment I was raised in. I was always at my dad’s hip waiting to create. My mother always talked about designing in odd numbers, numerology, and feng shui in our home. My most cherished possessions are what my father, grandfathers, and children have created. I feel a passion to teach and create, to leave behind my memory, and give my students that gift as well!

GOG is like no other art, not even stained glass. The details and depth can mesmerize me for hours! It is freedom in a cup! Glass on Glass has so many artistic element’s that a painting or any other medium can not offer. GOG is a variation transparent, opaque, iiridized glass, combined with unique elements like texture, reflectivity, illumination, and prismatic colors. Glass on Glass Mosaics have LIFE and can heal the sole! I am proud to say that lifelong friendships are established through our mosaic community and human connections are so important  to promote happiness and build confidence. Glass on Glass Mosaic can also offer an ever-changing piece of illuminated art, essentially changing with the light of the sun.

Photo is of Lily Lathrop, my only niece. My dad, sister, I once made a colored dragon, a snow chair, and many snowmen! Last year, my son and I filled bottles of water and food coloring and had fun splattering the neighborhood!
